Kung fu was born in the Shaolin Temple in China over 2500 years ago. The monks of the temple imitated animal movements and used them for self-defense and battle techniques. Kung fu didn’t come to the western part of the world until the 20th century and is best known from action movies.

Kung fu differs from other martial arts in that there are so many different styles. Some style may consist of only hand techniques while others are made up of long series of movements. Some styles have been named after animals, e.g. tiger, monkey, viper. In these, one tries to copy the movements of the animal in question.

Kung fu is called wushu in China, which means martial art. In Chinese, the term kung fu refers to the development of the body, mind and power in whatever field. So does kung fu develop the physical as well as the mental strength. The practice of kung fu increases patience, the ability to concentrate, and humility.

In our association, we train the physical as well as the mental fitness. The practices are always started off with a long warming-up, which improves the condition and prepares the body for the learning of the techniques. Each and every one trains on his or her own level and against his or her own weight. In the weekly practices we concentrate on the basic moves of kung fu as well as different styles. The camps are longer trainings, in which we do deeper studies in some style.
